~1/3 of a tennis court, padel courts are surrounded by glass and mesh walls that are used in the gameplay. The court features a turf surface with a net.
Shots can be played off the walls, adding a strategic layer to the game.
A padel racket is solid, perforated, and smaller than a traditional tennis racket, without any strings. Made from lightweight materials such as carbon fiber or fiberglass, it has a thicker, rounded frame with a foam core.
The ball is similar to a depressurized tennis ball.
The ball is served underhanded from below the waist, cross-court into the opposing teams service box.
The ball must be dropped and bounce before contact. There are LETs and a fault, like in tennis.
A point is over when the ball either bounces twice on the turf without being returned or if a shot makes contact with a wall in air.
Think of the walls as a tool. Allow the ball to go past you, off the wall, and come back at a slower speed making your shot easier.
In a pinch, players can also smash the ball facing backwards off their own glass walls to return the ball. But never off the mesh fencing.
